Now that Pandemik is announced - what will happen to the mod?
Im talking about renting servers, the serverlist, the launcher...
Are you going to keep that alive?
Or are you going to shut down the mod at a forseeable point?

The future of Origins Mod
Re: The future of Origins Mod
Basically, nothing will happen to the mod.
As we say in eastern Europe, it doesn't eat any bread so leave it alone. We see no reason to shut it down, renting servers has nothing to do with us so if people still play and the server hosts want to keep hosting the mod, that's up to them.
We will still release security fixes, ban cheaters etc... until Pandemik comes out, and then we will see if anyone still plays the mod, and if not then obviously we won't do anymore security fixes for it. But nobody is planing to shut down the launcher, server list etc... in the foreseeable future.
Re: The future of Origins Mod
So given there was talk about releasing the server files for years once the mod was "finished" will you finally release them once Pandemik comes out?
That way should popularity wane and hosting options dwindle the mod can still be run by fans on their own.

Re: The future of Origins Mod
We didn't discuss it yet, but I don't think so.
There are a lot of reasons why we don't want release them.
And why you need them when Pandemik will come out?
Re: The future of Origins Mod
One, for the reason I stated above. Also, we'd be hosting a server now if we could. We have a sizable community and already have game servers available to run all of the servers our members. When we have that why would we pay someone else for hosting, especially when Origins hosting traditionally has been almost twice the cost of other dayz mod hosting, and does not have any good geographical options?Lucas False wrote: ↑30 Aug 2018 20:10We didn't discuss it yet, but I don't think so.

It just seems a shame that you would rather see the mod die, once hosting goes away rather than release it to the community when you are done with it.

Nobody talks abot 'death' of Origins Mod. Servers and hosting will be working as usual even after Pandemik release.Goldenpsp wrote: ↑31 Aug 2018 22:40 One, for the reason I stated above. Re: The future of Origins Mod
Well that was only one part of my reply. Current hosting is already sub par, as Lag free doesn't even have datacenters in our country, or even close geographically.Lucas False wrote: ↑01 Sep 2018 16:46

That was the biggest reason for our giving up on origins and moving to a dayz epoch server. While the mod may not die I certainly don't forsee hosting options being expanded after pandemik is released.
It is just unfortunate, as origins has historically been one of the best Dayz mods but has always suffered due to poor hosting options. It was just a hope that maybe when you were finally done with the mod you would release it so those of us who would love to play it again, even for nostalgic reasons, could without renting a pricey server from far away.
Either way I'll stop beating a dead horse.
