Home Getting Started Body Temperature & Clothing

Taviana The Origins features a realistic body temperature system, which takes into account the clothing the player is wearing, the player's movement speed, and the ambient temperature (which takes into account the weather, time of day, and the player's elevation). Let's explore how it works.

Body Temperature

Your character's body temperature should always be at 37.0°C (98.6°F), but it may rise or fall due to a fever or when the ambient temperature exceeds your character's current hot and cold tipping points.

When your character's body temperature falls below 36°C (96.8°F) or rises above 38°C (100.4°F), the thermometer icon will appear in the status bar along with the current body temperature, letting you know that it needs your attention.

When your character's body temperature is high, their water level will be depleted at a faster rate, and when their body temperature is low, their food level will be depleted at a faster rate. They will also eventually get the flu.

If your character's body temperature falls below 32°C (89.6°F) or exceeds 42°C (107.6°F), they will die.

Tipping Points

Your character's body has two tipping points: a cold tipping point and a hot tipping point. When the ambient temperature exceeds either of these tipping points, your character will either begin to lose or gain body heat.

When your character is naked (not wearing any clothes), their cold tipping point is 15°C (59°F), and their hot tipping point is 35°C (95°F).

You can lower your character's cold tipping point (the ambient temperature at which they get cold) by wearing clothing.

Example 1:

If your character is naked and the ambient temperature is 12°C (53.6°F), it is below the cold tipping point of 15°C (59°F), and your character will begin to lose body heat. The lower the ambient temperature is, the faster your character's body heat will fall.

Example 2:

If your character is naked and the ambient temperature is 40°C (104°F), it is above the hot tipping point of 35°C (95°F), and your character's body heat will begin to increase. The higher the ambient temperature is, the faster your character's body heat will increase.

Example 3:

If the ambient temperature is 20°C (68°F), it does not exceed any of the tipping points, and you don't have to do anything, as your character's body will automatically manage its body temperature, meaning that if their body temperature is either high or low, it will automatically restore it to 37.0°C (98.6°F) where it should be.

The Baltic Sea and lakes of Taviana are always cold, and your character will always lose body heat when swimming regardless of the ambient temperature!

Clothing

You can lower your character's cold tipping point (the ambient temperature at which they begin losing body heat) by wearing clothing.

Warmth

The value by which a clothing item lowers your character's cold tipping point is called 'warmth'.

Each clothing item has a different warmth value. Hover your mouse cursor over each clothing item to see how much warmth it adds, and at what temperature your character will get hot and cold if you wear the item.

Keep in mind that when you lower the point at which your character begins to get cold, you also lower the point at which they get hot. Your character's hot tipping point is always the cold tipping point value + 20°C (68°F). I.e. If your character's current cold tipping point is 5° (41°F), their hot tipping point will be 5 + 20 = 25°C (77°F).

Lowering the Body Temperature

If you need to quickly lower your character's body temperature, jumping into water is the way to do it.

Ambient Temperature

The ambient temperature varies based on the following factors:

  • Season
  • Weather
  • Time of day
  • Your character's elevation above sea level
